Q. What Lacrosse Leagues is MYL involved with?
A. The Boys program plays in the Town Pride League (TPL). The Girls program plays in the Founders Girls Lacrosse League (FGLL).
Q. What is TPL?
A. Unlike prior years, the Boys program plays in the Town Pride League (TPL) exclusively. MYL is a charter founding member of TPL. TPL member towns include Beverly, Billerica, Concord-Carlisle, Dover-Sherborn, Duxbury, Hingham, Medfield, Needham, Norwell, Sudbury and Wellesley. For more details on the move to TPL, please read the MYL TPL Announcement. TPL also has a website at http://www.tpllax.com.
Q: My son has not played in the TPL program – what’s different?
A: All teams are now grade level teams (e.g. 7th graders play 7th graders only). For 6th-8th grade, there will be A and B level teams, while the 3rd-5th grade teams are balanced. There will be a tryout for placement on 6th thru 8th grade A and B teams, but there is room and a spot for everyone. No one will be turned away.
The 5th thru 8th grade games are now on Saturdays. The 3rd and 4th grade games are still on Sundays. There are also Friday night games for the 8th graders.
Q: What is FGLL?
A: The Girls program plays in the Founders Girls Lacrosse League (FGLL). FGLL’s mission is to promote girls’ youth lacrosse in an environment that emphasizes fun while developing skills, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and integrity. For further information on FGLL, see their website at http://www.fgll.org.
Q: What is the Instructional Clinic?
A: The Boys and Girls Instructional Clinic is for 1st and 2nd graders, and is designed to introduce and advance your daughter’s/son’s lacrosse skills and knowledge.
Q: Do I have to buy equipment?
A: Yes. The following equipment is required at all levels. For insurance and safety reasons, actual lacrosse equipment is required – for example: no hockey helmets.
Girls Clinic: Lacrosse stick and mouth guard. MYL will supply the goggles.
Girls: Lacrosse stick, goggles, and mouth guard. The mouth guard is not allowed to have any protrusions (e.g. tabs).
Boys: Lacrosse stick, arm and shoulder pads, helmet, gloves, mouth guard, and cup.
MYL provides goalie protective gear and a goalie stick.
Q: When does the season begin?
A: We try to get the season started late March for the boys/girls 3rd - 8th grade programs and finish in mid June. The Instructional Clinic program starts mid April and goes to mid June.
However this is very weather and field dependent. We have to wait until the town opens up the fields for the spring. Not only does the snow need to be gone but the fields also need to be dry enough so that the first practices do not destroy the grass before it has a chance to get strong enough to last the whole season.
Q: How many days a week do you practice?

Q: How are the teams selected for each age group / grade?
A: The MYL coaches go to great lengths to evaluate the kids and place the kids appropriately. For the girls, all the teams are balanced so there are strong players as well as newer players on each team. For the boys, the 3rd-5th grades are balanced as well, while the 6th-8th graders have A and B level teams. There will be more information about the 6th-8th grade tryouts in the spring.
Q: Can I request that my son/daughter play on a team with his/her friend so that we can car pool?
A: First as described above, after creating the teams it is very difficult to make a move that may throw the teams out of balance. Requests will not be considered or honored.
Q: Why are sign-ups in November?
A: We are required to submit how many teams we will field for each grade (boys, age group for girls) by early January. We need to have registration complete so that we can determine how many teams we will have and field for each age group. Late registrations pose a problem as we are also trying to be sure that the experience is a positive one for every child. With nearly 400 kids in the program, this takes time and effort to fairly balance the teams, handle the latecomers, satisfy the coaching needs, create the schedules with all the towns we play against, schedule the referees, and so on.
Q: Is there a place I can get information?
A: This website will be updated and is the first place to check for information. The coaches use email to communicate urgent information to their teams. During the season, each team has a toll free hot line number to call for the latest information from the coach.
